David Tang is the Partner and Managing Director of NGP Capital. NGP Capital’s successful investments in China include Xiaomi, UCWeb, Ganji, Gridsum and Madhouse. David also serves as an Independent Board Director of two publicly listed companies Kingsoft Corporation Limited and YY Inc and as an Independent Non-executive Director of Standard Chartered, also a publicly listed company.

David has more than 25 years of global and Chinese operational experience in the IT and VC industries, covering venture investments, sales, marketing, business development, R&D and manufacturing. He has managed businesses of various sizes up to yearly revenue of RMB 70 billion and is well known in the Chinese venture community as an advisor to leading mobile businesses such as UCWeb and Ganji.

Prior to joining NGP Capital, David was the Corporate Senior Vice President and President of AMD Greater China. From 2004-2010, David held various positions in Nokia including Nokia Corporate Vice President, Chairman of Nokia Telecommunications Ltd and Vice Chairman of Nokia (China) Investment Co., Ltd. David has also held senior positions in Apple, 3Com, DEC, and AST.  

David is a top business leader in China who has also served as Vice President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, Vice Chairman of the China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investments, and Vice Chairman of the Beijing International Chamber of Commerce. He has received numerous awards for his great work throughout the years including one of the “Ten Best Professional Managers of the Decade” by CEO & CIO Magazine in China.  

David has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from California State University at Long Beach and a MBA from California State University at Fullerton.
