Joschka Fischer
Former German Foreign Minister and Vice Chancellor


Joschka Fischer is a former German Foreign Minister and Vice Chancellor and a leading figure in Germany’s postwar politics. A longtime Green Party leader, he helped bring the party into the mainstream and was a prominent voice during the Schröder government.
He began his political leadership career in the Bundestag during the 1980s and 1990s, co-chairing the Greens’ parliamentary group and serving twice as Environment Minister in Hesse. As Foreign Minister from 1998 to 2005, he shaped major geopolitical decisions and advanced early proposals for a more federal, constitution-based European Union.
After leaving office, Joschka advised companies such as Siemens and BMW as Senior Strategic Counsel at Albright Stonebridge Group. He also held leadership roles in international policy organizations and served as a visiting professor at Princeton University.
Joschka has received multiple honors, including honorary doctorates from the University of Haifa, Tel Aviv University, and the University of Michigan, as well as the Gottlieb Duttweiler Prize and the Leo Baeck Medal. He is also the author of the bestselling book My Long Race Towards Myself.
